Personal narratives are one of my favorites genres of writing. They allow me to reflect on my life, and zoom in on a little piece of my life and write down all my feelings. I like how there are not really any rules when it comes to narratives. I can write about something so large like maybe a family vacation, or something so small like the time I scraped my finger. It is really up to me. For this personal narrative I wrote about growing older, and moving to college. I really soothed my soul, because it was something that was taking over my thoughts. When I get sad, or angry with someone, I resort to writing. Writing is the only thing that really brings me comfort, brings me joy, and allows for my creative juices to flow. I am really happy I got assigned this project because I was writing about this topic anyways, and I was finally able to use my thoughts into classwork. You know when you write something in your diary, but you have no one to share it with? I tend to write a lot in my diary that I become proud of that I really just want to show someone, but I never get the chance to. This project finally let me showcase my feelings. When I wrote my first "shitty" draft, I was so happy and I kid you not I read it outloud to probably ten people. I facetimed my mom and read it to her. I was so excited and happy about my narrative and I just wanted to show everyone. I had absolutely no trouble meeting any word count whatsoever, and I became even more excited to show my work to Mat. At my meeting at Sweet Shop, I was really looking for ways to improve my writing. I did not know what Mat and Amanda were going to say, but their constructive criticism completely opened my eyes to new ways to embellish my paper that I would never have thought. As soon as I got my feedback, I went home and fixed my paper, and it was really something I was even more proud of- something that I did not know was possible. Throughout this entire process, personal narrative projects like these like I said, sooth my soul. This was the smoothest paper writing process I have ever done. Hopefully the inquiry project goes just as well!
